Manuele Fior. Colourful journey
Pisa, Palazzo Blu, 19 April 2024 – 1 September 2024
Manuele Fior (born in Cesena, on 25th April 1975), is a highly appreciated illustrator on the international scene, endowed with fine graphic sensitivity and a powerful sense of colour that make him immediately recognisable. His work is sought-after by leading Italian and International publishers (in Italy he has been published by Edizioni EL, Feltrinelli, Einaudi, Oblomov, Coconino Press), while his illustrations regularly appear in Italian and foreign periodicals and dailies (such as “la Repubblica”, “Internazionale”, “Il Sole 24 Ore”, “Vanity Fair”, “The New Yorker” and “Le Monde”). He has received numerous prizes and awards, among which the prestigious Attilio Micheluzzi prize (at Naples’s Comicon in 2007 for Red Ultramarine, in 2010 for 5,000 km Per Second and again in 2023 for the best script with Hypericon), the Fauve d’Or for Best Album (at the Angoulême International Festival in 2010) and the Gran Guinigi for the best Single Author “Autore unico” (at Lucca Comics in 2010), the latter two awards being for 5,000 km Per Second.
Travel, combined with a fleeting sense of melancholic nostalgia, is at the base of the author’s work. He experienced the boom of the ‘Erasmus generation’ to its full extent in the 1990s, a theme that resurfaces as a recurring thread, expressed in different ways and colours. Fior’s galaxy is rich in musical references that rhythmically punctuate the stories, suggesting times of viewing and reading through his works.
The visitor will embark on a “colourful journey” through places, cities, real and imagined locations having the opportunity to admire a wide selection of plates, realized with a remarkable variety of techniques.
